Peoria County, Illinois, is developing a Local Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan to better protect the people and property of the unincorporated areas of Peoria County from the effects of natural and man-made hazard events.  The plan development process identifies hazards that threaten the County, determines the likely impacts of those hazards, sets mitigation goals, and prioritizes appropriate strategies for implementation to lessen impacts.  The plan demonstrates the County’s commitment to reducing risks from hazards and serves as a tool to help decision makers direct mitigation activities and resources.  In addition, the Plan is part of an annual process undertaken by Peoria County that reduces flood insurance premiums by 25% for Peoria County homeowners, and aids the County’s ongoing flood risk reduction efforts.  Peoria County residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate throughout the planning process and provide comments on the identified hazards, mitigation strategies, and final mitigation plan document.
