Jessica Thomas, Auditor
Jessica Thomas was born and raised on the south side of Peoria, Il. She graduated in the Top 10 of her class from Peoria Manual High School. After graduation, she attended Grambling State University, a prestigious historically black university in Grambling, Louisiana. Jessica graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in Marketing. The County Auditor is an elected official and serves a four-year term. This office performs an audit on all claims against the County, verifying the accuracy of the claim and recommending payment or rejection of all invoices. The Auditor is responsible for a continuous, ongoing internal audit of operations and financial records of the officers, agents, or divisions of the County.
Robert Spears, Circuit Clerk
The Circuit Clerk is an elected official with a four-year term. Robert Spears as the Clerk, is the keeper of both the seal of the circuit court and the court records, including files and exhibits. The Clerk's Office process criminal and juvenile delinquency cases, ordinance, conservation and traffic violation cases and civil cases. In addition, the Office summons citizens to jury duty, provides clerks for the courtrooms, and collects fines, costs and fees.
Jamie Harwood, Coroner
The County Coroner is an elected official with a four-year term. Jamie Harwood, as the Coroner has the responsibility of investigating sudden, unusual and traumatic deaths. It is also the responsibility of the Coroner to assure the body is examined, identified, and if necessary, autopsied. In cases of unnatural or questionable death, the Coroner summons a jury and conducts an inquest to determine the manner of death.
R. Steve Sonnemaker, County Clerk
Steve Sonnemaker served as the Peoria County Auditor for many years and was elected to the County Clerk's Office in November of 2006. The County Clerk provides a variety of essential services: Mr. Sonnemaker maintains public filings, records land records and other documents, maintains vital records and issues certified copies, issues marriage and other various licenses. The County Clerk also prepares the real estate tax bills, collects all delinquent taxes and is the keeper of the Board agenda and minutes.
Jerry Brady, State's Attorney
Jerry Brady attended Spalding Institute and graduated from Bradley University in 1972. After graduation, he worked briefly before attending St. Louis University Law School where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence Law degree in 1981. During law school, he was an intern in the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office under State's Attorney Michael Mihm and was chairman of the Moot Court Program. Full biography here.
The Peoria County State's Attorney's Office prosecutes criminal defendants and represents all elected county offices in civil, labor and administrative matters, including the Sheriff, Coroner, Treasurer, Clerks, County Administrator, and Peoria County Board and addresses matters of dispute related to the County's employees.
Superintendent, Regional Office of Education
Beth Crider was elected to a four-year term in 2014. She was an educator in the Peoria Public Schools for more than 17 years prior to coming to the Regional Office of Education. The Regional Superintendent serves all school districts in Peoria County by acting as the liaison between the Illinois State Board of Education and the locally elected school boards. Other mandated duties of the office include GED testing services, school bus driver safety, health/life safety school inspections for all school buildings in Peoria County, homeschool services, home/hospital tutoring services, fingerprinting, truancy services, homeless student services, teacher licensure, and educator professional development. In addition to these mandates, the Peoria Regional Office of Education also manages the Peoria Regional Learning Center located at Wildlife Prairie Park, the Illinois Virtual School, Peoria ROE Adult Literacy, GED course instruction at the Peoria County Jail, and three Preschool for All sites.
Nicole Demetreas, Treasurer
The County Treasurer is an elected official with a four-year term. The duties of the Treasurer's office include receipt, management and disbursement of public funds, as well as the collection, management and distribution of property taxes levied by various units of local government.
